Conference on the future of European Chemical-pharmaceutical Industry

Conference on the future of European Chemical-pharmaceutical Industry

Tuesday, April 08, 2025 – Venue: Representation of Lower Saxony to the EU, Rue Montoyer 61, 1000 Brussels

On 26th of February the European Commission presented the Clean Industrial Deal marking the newest initiative to make Europe’s Industry competitive again in an unstable global situation.

We, the chemical-pharmaceutical Unions from Germany and Italy welcome the initiative that we asked for over the last months which represents a first step into the right direction but still not sufficient. The chemical-pharmaceutical industry as a core sector for all European industrial production is highly affected by energy supply, energy prices and a complex regulatory framework for chemical and pharmaceutical production. More than 1,8 million workers are employed in Europe’s chemical and pharmaceutical industry with Europe as the world’s second largest producer of chemical products. In both our countries and so in many other regions of Europe the whole industrial base depends on ground components production from our sectors and needs a clear commitment from European decision makers. IGBCE and FILCTEM-CGIL represent workers in both sectors in Germany and Italy and demand security for the workforce. Therefore, the transition needs to be accompanied with adequate initiatives to guarantee good jobs in qualitative and quantitative terms.

On these topics we invite you to participate in our “Conference on the future of chemical-pharmaceutical Industry in Europe” in Brussels:
•             8th of April 2025
•             12 – 3 pm: Trade Union Dialogue (for Trade Union representatives only)
